Occupants of Burning Faribault Home Flee by Jumping into Pickup Bed

The first emergency responders to arrive at the scene, located at 2076 Baker Trail, saw the occupants on the roof of the garage.

They had crawled out of a second floor window. An occupant who had escaped from the main level of the home had backed up his pickup truck to the burning house.

The individuals on the roof then jumped into the bed of the pickup, the news release indicates.

Crews began the firefight by spraying a neighboring home to cool it. Firefighters then fought the house fire, which had started from the northwest corner of the home.

The fire had spread to the attic and fully engulfed it, the news release says. Crews had placed tarps over valuables on the home’s main level. Police say the fire and water damaged the home’s staircase to the upper levels.

Firefighters had the scene cleared by 3:20 Wednesday morning.

Cause of Faribault House Fire Deemed Accidental

During interviews with the home’s occupants, the person who was upstairs said he had discarded a cigarette prior to the start of the fire.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office responded to document the scene, however did not deem it necessary to investigate further. Officials say the fire is considered accidental.

No injuries were reported.
