Guilty Plea in Minnesota’s Feeding Our Future Fraud Scandal
Minneapolis, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Burnsville woman is the latest to enter a guilty plea to involvement in the so-called Feeding Our Future fraud scheme.
The US Attorney for Minnesota says 53-year-old Hoda Ali Abdi was the owner of a grocery store in Burnsville. She was accused of fraudulently seeking reimbursement for approximately $3 million worth of food that she claimed to have provided for distribution to children through the state's federally funded pandemic nutrition program.
Operating under the sponsorship of the Feeding Our Future organization, Abdi was accused of providing her co-conspirators with fake invoices. According to court documents, she also falsely claimed that she served more than 242,000 meals to children at her Burnsville store after joining the Federal Child Nutrition Program.
Federal prosecutors say Abdi ended up receiving nearly $1.3 million in reimbursements from the government program. The overall amount of money lost to the Feeding Our Future scheme is estimated at $250 million.
The sentencing hearing for Abdi has yet to be scheduled.
