Downtown Rochester Parking Ramp to Close for Four Months for Restoration Work

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- A parking ramp in downtown Rochester is scheduled to close for more than four months.

The planned closure comes amid a reduction of available spaces in downtown Rochester, mainly prompted by Mayo Clinic’s $5 billion expansion.

The healthcare giant’s Damon patient parking ramp closed in July and has since been demolished.

Center St. Parking Ramp to Close for 4 Months Starting in March

A news release issued by the City of Rochester says the Center St. Ramp, located at 11 W Center St. will completely close starting March 23 for “necessary restoration work.” 

Officials say the location of the work and layout of the ramp will prevent vehicles from circling the ramp in both directions. 

Other ramps in the area of the Center St. Ramp that will be open include the 2nd St. ramp, located at 14 2nd Street SE and Ramp 6, at 59 1st Street SE. 

The news release also says drivers can get 10 minutes of free parking at the yellow parking meters in downtown by pressing the “+” button on the meter. 

Officials say the ramp closure and repair work are part of the city’s effort to extend the useful life of the ramp and to make sure it remains safe for the public to use. 

The closure is scheduled to end in early August.
