Willmar, MN (KROC-AM News) - Agents from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension were called to western Minnesota this morning to investigate an officer-involved shooting.

A statement issued by the Willmar Police Department says the incident occurred around 8:10 AM after officers were sent to the 300 block of 4th Street Southwest in Willmar to investigate a report from a person who indicated they had been threatened by someone with a knife. The news release says an officer located the victim outside a building and were speaking with him when another man came out of a nearby doorway and charged at the officer with a knife.

Willmar Police say the officer immediately attempted to get away from the suspect and gave repeated commands to drop the knife before firing his handgun as the man continued to advance toward him. According to the statement, the wounded suspect then fled from the scene.

The officer who fired his gun and others located the man a short distance away and immediately began administering lifesaving measures. The news release says the suspect was transported to the hospital in Willmar and was then transferred to a higher care facility.

Willmar Police also reported that the officer involved in the incident suffered minor injuries and was treated by medical personnel at the scene. His name and the name of the suspect have not been released.
