Albert Lea, MN (KROC-AM News) - Police in Albert Lea say the investigation into recent acts of vandalism at Albert Lea High School has identified dozens of suspects.
45 Referred For Possible Prosecution
A news release issued Wednesday afternoon says the initial phase of the investigation is complete, and around 45 juveniles and adults have been referred to prosecuting authorities for consideration of criminal charges. The potential charges range from misdemeanor- to felony-level offenses that include criminal damage to property, trespassing, and burglary.

Suspects All Local Residents
The statement indicates that individuals identified as suspects are local residents, and include students attending Albert Lea High School, those participating in online educational programs, or those attending other school districts through open enrollment.

Student Used Staff Members Key
Albert Lea police say investigators determined that entry into the school was accomplished by a student who had obtained a staff member's key. The vandalism, which occurred on September 20 during homecoming week, resulted in damage and cleanup costs that total more than $24,000, and that figure could rise.
Damage Inside and Outside School
Previous police statements concerning the vandalism say furniture inside the building had been overturned, while toilet paper and baby oil were found throughout the school. The outside of the school was also spray-painted and hit with paintballs and eggs.
