St. Augusta Gives Update On Gaberdine Road Construction Project

The City of St. Augusta gave an update on the ongoing road construction project that is taking place on 238th Ave, 240th Ave, and Gaberdine Road. The project, which seeks to repair the road's surface and add a walking trail that will eventually link up to the Beaver Island trail, is expected to wrap up in the next few weeks.

Asphalt Laid, More To Come

According to an update from City Administrator Jennifer Nash, the contractor Knife River had recently completed the base layer of pavement for the road and the trail.

Nash went on to state that "additional pedestrian ramp and trail connection work is scheduled to be completed later this week."

Residents who live along the project should start to see right-of-way work begin, as well as mailboxes return to the road, where they had been placed near City Hall during the bulk of the project.

Project Looking To Wrap Up In August-Early September

Administrator Nash mentioned in an email that "additional pavement on the roadway tentatively planned to occur the week of August 11^th (depending on weather and progress of other prep items)."

This would put the project on a timeline to wrap up by the end of August or early September, depending on weather.

Candidate Filing Window Closes

The window for candidates to file for city offices closed on July 28th at 5pm with only three people filing to run this November.

Current Mayor Jeff Schmitz will be running for Mayor again, and current councilman Justin Backes is seeking re-election for another 4-year term. Also filing to run for city council was Paul Reinert.
