Those who happen to be biking, walking, or driving by a Twin Cities home will have something to look forward to over the next few weeks. The Tulip House, which can be found in Minneapolis, has new owners, but it sounds like they've at least kept the spring surprises coming.

Tulips & Spring Time

The flowers add a splash of color to what can be a dreary landscape, and give us some hope that things have changed for the better.

Various Midwestern communities celebrate spring in different ways; there's even one town in Iowa (Pella) that goes all out to celebrate tulips. One of the best signs that spring is officially here is when tulips emerge from the cold ground. It's a fun thing to see, even if the flowers are temporary, as they generally last 1-3 weeks.

Tulip House In Minneapolis

Last year, the owner of the Tulip House in Minneapolis passed away, leaving the fate of what has become a rite of spring to new owners. According to Taylor Jo Hildreth on Facebook, the new owners have continued the tradition of planting hundreds of tulip bulbs in the fall, allowing for a vibrant spring surprise a few weeks from now.

@jenniferplourdeart from the team who sold the property confirmed that new tulips were in fact PLANTED by the new owners before it got too cold last fall. Comment is pinned in the original post.

The history: The former owner, Lisa Storz, planted thousands of bulbs annually, creating a massive, vibrant, public display of yellow, pink, and other colored tulips that became a local tradition.

After Lisa passed last year the house went on the market and the tulips were dug up and did not come with the house sale, and the fate of the tradition was unknown.

Located at the corner of 25th Street and Humboldt Avenue South.

The owner encourages people to come visit and take pictures of the beautiful flowers. As the sign says, “Do Touch, See, Smell.”

this video was taken 4/26 2024 in the morning but can vary between end of April and May for peak blooms!

So excited to see Lisa’s creation live on

The Tulip House has its own YELP page, and once we know that the flowers have popped up, you can check it out at 2444 Humboldt Ave SMinneapolis, MN 55405. Just make sure you don't ruin the moment for others, and be courteous of the private property that the flowers are located on.
