Win Tickets To The Rock From The Heart Concert In Duluth
Some of the scariest health conditions are the ones that don't announce themselves. Rock fans got a hard lesson in that back in 2021, when Judas Priest guitarist Richie Faulkner suffered an acute aortic dissection on stage in the middle of a show.
He survived, and he's been back to shredding ever since. Plenty of people aren't that lucky.
Aortic aneurysms and dissections were linked to nearly 10,000 deaths in the United States in a single year. Heart valve disease affects millions more.
However, most adults know little to nothing about it, which is exactly the problem a Minnesota nonprofit is trying to fix with the loudest tool it has: rock and roll.
A Hospital Bed Vision That Turned Into a Movement
Rock from the Heart started with Pete and Amy Johnson. After Pete was diagnosed with aortic valve disease and an aortic aneurysm, the couple found out firsthand how hard it was to find good information and support.

While Pete was in his hospital bed waiting for surgery, the two decided to turn their love of music into something that could help other families going through the same thing.
Today the nonprofit hosts education events, shares survivor stories, connects patients with trusted resources, and caps it all off with a benefit concert. The message is simple: know your risk, know your family history, and don't wait until it's too late.
Rock from the Heart Takes Over Duluth October 9 and 10
Rock from the Heart Northland, presented by Essentia Health, runs in Duluth on October 9 and 10.
It starts Friday with free Aortic Ed Sessions, where health experts walk through what you need to know and the community honors aortic disease survivors. On Saturday, the Community Health Showcase takes place.
Then Saturday night it gets loud, when the benefit concert takes over the Harborside Ballroom at the DECC.
Arch Allies will bring the arena-sized sounds of Styx, Journey, REO Speedwagon, and more. Rock from the Heart's own house band, Aortic Fire, plays a set that means a lot to the people in that room.

Turn It Up, Then Get Checked
Most concerts end with ringing ears and a merch shirt. This one might end with someone calling their doctor on Monday to ask about their family history, and that call could matter more than any encore.
Richie Faulkner got a second set. The whole point of Rock from the Heart is to help more people get theirs. Go rock out for a good cause, and then go take care of that heart.
