Stamps are about to get a little pricier - at least if the USPS has their way. The United States Postal Service has proposed a price hike that would make stamps nearly a dollar nationwide, including in Minnesota and Wisconsin.

According to reports, the price hike was proposed earlier this week during a congressional hearing. The Postmaster General noted the financial future of the USPS is not in a great place because Americans aren't really sending mail like they used to.

This makes sense considering we choose to text or call someone these days. I don't remember the last time I got a handwritten letter in the mail! Things have just changed over the years.

The Postmaster General says the USPS is facing severe strain right now, and may run out of money soon. That is the reason behind the proposed price hike. So how much more could the price of stamps go up?

Stamp Prices Could Reach Nearly A Dollar Soon

The Postmaster General proposed a hike to 95 cents. The current cost of a stamp is 78 cents, meaning it is an increase of about twenty-three percent. Doing so, he said, would largely help their current financial struggles.

This isn't official just yet but I think we are all used to things going up in price by now, right? There will also likely be more price increases in the future as the USPS tries to stay afloat. With technology, there's not as much of a need for physical mail.
