Where Minnesota Ranks Among States With The Most Deer
Deer hunting season is just around the corner. The bow season starts next month, and the firearm season will be here before you know it. Recent milder winters have helped the deer population recover in many parts of Minnesota, especially in Southern parts of Minnesota. Northeast Minnesota still is recovering from some cold and harsh winters.
Minnesota is home to the white-tailed deer. Whitetail deer are easily identified by (you guessed it) their white tail. Often, hunters see the white tail as a "flag" jumping through the woods. You can often spot a deer by seeing its tail first.

Deer can be a nuisance in Minnesota when it comes to vehicle accidents. Minnesota ranks among the top states in the U.S. for vehicle and deer collisions, causing a lot of damage and sometimes injuries to drivers. I assumed Minnesota would rank among the top 10 for states when it comes to deer population, given how vast our wilderness is and how large Minnesota is. However, Minnesota didn't make the top 10. The land of 10,000 lakes was beat out by places like Texas, Michigan, and even some southern states like Alabama and Louisiana.

A-Z Animals counted the population of deer (of all types) in each state; Texas was number 1 with 5.5 million mule deer and white-tailed deer combined.
