Because of its widespread availability and large jackpots, Powerball is one of the most popular lottery games in the United States.

Powerball tickets are widely available in 45 states, along with the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and U.S. Virgin Islands, so it's always great when someone nearby scores a big win, and that's what happened last weekend in Minnesota.

On Saturday, June 21, the Powerball jackpot had reached an estimated $118 million. The winning numbers drawn on Saturday were 3, 16, 32, 52, and 62, and the Powerball number was 24.

To win $1 million, you'd need to match 5 of the 5 numbers, but not the Powerball number, meaning you're just one number away from scoring $118 million, and a ticket purchased in a suburb of St. Paul did just that.

$1 Million Winning Powerball Ticket Purchased In Minnesota

According to the Minnesota Lottery, the $1 million winning ticket was purchased in Cottage Grove, a city with an estimated population of just over 40,000.

The lucky Powerball ticket was purchased at a Holiday Stationstores located at 6921 Pine Arbor Drive.

As of June 23, that massive $1 million prize is being reported as unclaimed. Hopefully, the new millionaire realizes they have the winning ticket and claims their big payday soon. However, unless the winner decides to come forward publicly, we may never know who they are.

There are regulations to protect lottery winners who win over $10,000 because big-money winners can become targets for scammers and fraud, so the Minnesota Lottery will not divulge their name unless they first agree to it.

The next Powerball drawing will occur at 9:59 p.m. on Monday, June 23. The current estimated jackpot is $128  million, with a cash value of over $57.6 million, but those amounts can grow based on tickets sold before the drawing.
