Operation K9 takes place at the old UWS track near Wessman Arena in Superior (2701 Catlin Avenue). The Duluth Police Department's five K-9 Teams will be demonstrating their skills. Vili, Maverick, Fitz, Gus, and Kallie will show off their special skills.

Kallie, the K9 that visited us this morning, is an explosives and bomb sniffing dog. She's the only K9 north of the Twin Cities with this skill, and at 8 years old, Kallie is the senior K9 officer at the event. Trust me, she's still got a lot of spunk. She was sniffing around the studio and was really interested in my Old Spice deodorant that I put on this morning.

The Duluth Police Department says all the K9s present are very social, and community members are welcome to come out and meet the dogs and their human partners at the event.

There will also be a ton of other activities for kids, like bouncy houses and vehicle tours. Check out the video from previous Operation K9 events.

Gates open at 4:30 on August 13th, 2026. Demonstrations begin around 5 P.M. The event is free to the public, and they hope for a good turnout. Thursday's weather forecast couldn't be much better. It's supposed to be partly cloudy with a high of 76 degrees. It sounds like the perfect August Day to come out.
