Duluth’s 148th Plans Rare Flyover For High School Football Game
Well, this is something you don't see every day! The Duluth 148th Air National Guard is planning a flyover for a local high school football game. Flyovers frequently occur over NFL games when weather and circumstances permit, but I honestly can say I've never seen one at a High School Football game!
The only other times we have flyovers from the 148th are for 4th of July Parades, Grandma's Marathon, and other special occasions, so this is pretty cool!
The 148th's F-16s will fly over the Two Harbors vs. Esko High School football game on Wednesday, October 21st. The game takes place at the Esko Athletics Complex Stadium Field at 5:00 pm. Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for students, and $5 for military members and seniors 65+.
Both teams have a winning record so far this season, so it should be a good matchup. The Two Harbors Varsity Agates have a 4-1 record, while Esko's Varsity team has a record of 3-2.
Coincidentally, if you hear more rumbles overhead this week, the 148th announced they are doing training exercises across the Northland with increased activity, so keep an eye out for our F-16's in the sky this week!
The 148th Air National Guard is a unit based in Duluth, Minnesota, which operates the newest and most capable F-16 jets in the U.S. Air Force Fleet. While F-16s are fourth-generation fighter aircraft and not as new as the fifth-generation fighters, they are still regarded as one of the most maneuverable fighters in the world.
