After having recently hit high-volume, nine-year record levels, food recalls have unfortunately become far too common in the United States, and something consumers can have trouble keeping up with.

Recently, a bottled water recall was issued for people in Wisconsin and Illinois, which the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said now involves over 650,000 products.

Now, an even bigger recall has expanded throughout the United States, including Minnesota and Wisconsin, as well as Canada and Mexico, that involves glass being found in frozen food.

This is a Class 1 recall, the most serious type of recall, meaning there is a reasonable probability that the use of or exposure to a product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death.

Massive Frozen Food Recall Issued

According to a recent notification from the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service, Ajinomoto Foods North America, Inc. has expanded its recall of frozen chicken and pork fried rice, ramen, and shu mai products, which are sold under various brand names.

On February 19, the company originally issued a recall of frozen not-ready-to-eat (NRTE) chicken products that may be contaminated with foreign material, specifically glass.

Now, the recall is expanding to include approximately 33,617,045 additional pounds of various ready-to-eat (RTE) and NRTE chicken and pork fried rice, ramen, and shu mai dumpling products, for a combined total of 36,987,575 pounds subject to recall.

Brands included in this recall include Ajinomoto, Kroger, Ling Ling, Tai Pei, and Trader Joe's. The company has since identified that the carrots it uses in many products were likely the source of the glass contamination.

All recalled products have the establishment number P-18356, P-18356B, or P-47971 and were produced between October 21, 2024, and February 26, 2026, with expiration dates ranging between February 28, 2026, and August 19, 2027.

The list of specific products being recalled is a whopping 23 pages long, which you'd expect in a recall involving nearly 37 million pounds of food, but some of the products included in the recall are:

What To Do If You Have A Product That Was Recalled

If you have any of the recalled products, you should not consume them. Eating a product contaminated with glass could cause serious internal injury. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported at this time.

You should throw the frozen foods away or return them to the original place of purchase for a full refund.  For questions regarding this recall expansion, you can contact Ajinomoto Foods North America at (855) 742-5011.
