Food recalls have unfortunately become far too common in the United States. In fact, they have recently hit high-volume, nine-year record levels.

In 2024, there were 296 total FDA/USDA recalls; in 2025, recalls surged to 571, with 138.5 million units impacted. Key drivers behind the recalls include bacterial contamination (Salmonella, Listeria, E. coli), undeclared allergens, and foreign materials.

Now, just a few months into 2026, several significant recalls have already occurred, including a massive food recall involving over 36 million pounds of products.

Recently, a new bottled water recall was issued for people in Wisconsin and Illinois, and now, as stores remove the products in question, consumers are urged to dispose of any water they already bought.

Bottled Water Recall Impacting Wisconsin and Illinois

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Wisconsin-based Valley Springs Artesian Gold LLC is now recalling six of its products after they were bottled under "insanitary conditions."

The recall was originally initiated on February 6 and now includes 651,148 bottles of water. The FDA has classified the recall as a Class II recall, meaning the product “may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences.”

The recalled water was known to be sold at retail locations in Illinois and Wisconsin, but it may also have been distributed elsewhere.

The recall is for the following brands and products that contain the UPCs listed:

  • Valley Springs 1-gallon 100% Natural Bottled Water (UPC: 0 31193-00701 9)
  • Valley Springs 2.5-gallon 100% Natural Bottled Water (UPC: 0 31193-01501 4)
  • Valley Springs 100% Natural Bottled Water Fluoride 1-gallon (UPC: 0 31193-01301 0)
  • Valley Springs Steamed Distilled Water 1-gallon (UPC: 0 31193-00601 2)
  • Valley Springs 1-gallon Infant Water (“Not sterile. Use as directed by physician or by labeling directions for use of infant formula.”) (UPC: 0 31193-01401 7)
  • Valley Springs 1-gallon Daisy’s Doggy Water (“100% Pure Water. No Chlorine.”) (UPC: 0 31193-90100 3)

Consumers who purchased the water should either throw it away or return it to the store for a refund. Anyone who feels sick after drinking the recalled water is urged to contact a doctor immediately.
