I always talk about how much I love bears and how they are my favorite animal but we all know that you don't want to encounter one in the wild. They are pretty cute though.

Bear sightings are becoming more and more common, at least this year. In April, the Minnesota DNR shared that bears are migrating further south and west in Minnesota than ever before.

This means more bear sightings in the Twin Cities metro and beyond. However, we've also been having plenty of bear sightings of our own in the Northland.

In fact, officials with the City of Superior took to social media Monday (July 6th), writing that even Billings Park has been seeing bears and shared some wise words on what locals should be doing to keep bears at bay.

The funny post started with a message from 'the bear community' thanking locals for leaving out their garbage, overflowing recycling bins and even compost piles, especially in the overnight hours. Ha!

After making a few bear-y cute jokes, city officials did take a moment to remind everyone to secure their garbage and recycling, especially at this time of the year. They also remind everyone to be careful when throwing out pet food, as that also attracts bears.

It's easy to let these things be in the back of your mind this time of the year but let this serve as a reminder to be 'bear aware' if you will. It's a good reminder no matter where you are in our region!
