Deadly Officer-Involved Shooting in Otter Tail County
Battle Lake, MN (MinnesotaNow) - The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating a deadly officer-involved shooting in northwestern Minnesota.
Deputies Respond to Report of Disturbance
A statement issued by the Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office says the fatal incident occurred after deputies responded Friday evening to a report of a disturbance at a home near the town of Battle Lake. The report indicated a relative of the person living at the residence stopped to check on that individual and, after finding the door barricaded, was confronted by the man.

Relative Reported Being Confronted and Assaulted
According to the Sheriff's Office, the man pointed a shotgun at his relative and then struck the person with the butt of the gun before forcing them into their vehicle. The caller reported that the man then went back into the home and barricaded the doors.
SWAT Teams Called to Scene
A news release says the Otter Tail County SWAT Team was dispatched to the property and attempted to contact and negotiate with the man. After a shot was fired at an armored SWAT vehicle, tactical teams from Douglas County and the nearby community were asked to respond and assist at the scene.

Officials Say Man Pointed a Gun at Law Officers
The Sheriff's Office says the preliminary investigation indicates the man later exited the residence and pointed the gun at law enforcement. One of the officers at the scene then discharged their firearm and shot the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released.

The statement on the incident indicates none of the law enforcement officers involved were injured.
