The road construction season churns forward regardless of distractions and crises. Even the heat doesn't slow things down much, though rain and thunderstorms sometimes get the upper hand. The Highway 14 expansion project between Owatonna and Dodge Center is one of the biggest Greater Minnesota jobs taking place.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation along with Olmstead and Dodge Counties and the cities of Byron and Kasson are hosting a virtual open house on Wednesday, June 10. The long-term plan for Highway 14 between Highway 57 and Olmsted County Road 104, which is also 60th Avenue. That portion of Highway 14 is already a four-lane divided roadway.

By going to their zoom meeting link, interested people can hear from the project team, ask questions if they like, and take a survey if they desire. The password for the event is 475651. The meeting will also be recorded for future viewing after June 10.

Visit the project website for an overview of the intersections that will be addressed during the meeting. The stated goal of the corridor study, "is to create a future vision for the corridor that improves safety, manages access, improves freight movement, manages congestion into the future, and encourages economic development."

The update indicates detours in Dodge County have been put into place in order to construct an overpass of Highway 14 on 630th Street. Traffic on the new Highway 14 should be rolling in 2021.

Other local road construction this season included changing Oak Avenue in Owatonna for a four-lane road to a three-lane road with a center-turn lane. A roundabout is being constructed at North Grove and Rose Street in Owatonna.
