Hayfield Top Seed Randolph #2 in Class A State Baseball

There could be an all-Gopher Conference State Championship at Target Field Friday, June 17, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. on KDHL Radio.

The coaches involved in the tournament awarded the defending State Champion Hayfield Vikings the #1 seed and Randolph the #2 seed when play begins Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud.

Hayfield (22-2) has the #1 seed but in my opinion got the toughest draw.  The Vikings will open with New Ulm Cathedral (22-3) at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 14, 2022.

The Grayhounds have a  #6 QRF, average 8.3 and allow 3.3 runs per game.  Hayfield is #2  while scoring 8.9 runs and giving up 1.7 per game with a team ERA under 1.

The Vikings have won 15 straight games.

#2 seed Randolph (22-1) defeated Hayfield during the regular season in a 8 inning thriller in Randolph.  The Rockets opponent is MACCRAY (15-6) with a #23 QRF.  Randolph is #5 QRF averaging 10.1 runs each outing and allowing 1.7.

The Wolverines are scoring 6 runs and giving up 2.7.  Randolph has a 9 game winning streak coming into the state tournament.

The Rockets are scheduled to play MACCRAY 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud.

#3 seed New York Mills (22-3) has the #1 QRF and opens with Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale (11-14) at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, 2022 same location.  The Raiders QRF is #31.  They average 5  runs and allow 5.2 per game.

The Eagles average 8.2 and surrender 2.5 runs per game.  Remember it was New York Mills that Hayfield defeated 7-4 in the Class A State Championship game last summer.

The Eagles and Rockets had a 15 inning Semifinals battle and they could have a rematch if both win or both lose on opening day.

#4 seed Sacred Heart School (21-3) tangles with #5 seed South Ridge (17-7)  at 1:00 p.m.  The Eagles of Sacred Heart have a #3 QRF while the Panthers are a #7 QRF.  Sacred Heart is riding a 5 game winning streak and South Ridge has won 7 straight games.

Sacred Heart School is in East Grand Forks and South Ridge in Culver City.

If Hayfield wins they would play 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at Joe Faber Field against the winner of South Ridge vs Sacred Heart.  If they lose they go to Bob Cross Field in Sauk Rapids for a 10:00 a.m. game on Wednesday.

If Randolph wins they play 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at Joe Faber Field against the New York Mills vs Bertha Hewitt/Verndale victor.

Consolation Championship is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at Joe Faber Field.

Third Place game is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, 2022.

It's bound to happen sometime this summer.
