Gov. Tim Walz Signs Executive Order To Allow Food Trucks At Certain Rest Stops During Pandemic
For many truck drivers going through Minnesota they are thankful that Governor Tim Walz signed an executive order last Friday allowing Food trucks to operate at certain rest stops. The executive order is for 20-49 permits for food trucks to operate at up to six highway rest stops in Minnesota.
Walz had said that with so many restaurants being closed throughout the state many truck drivers are left with minimal food options to choose from at a place like a highway rest area. This order will provide a convenient option for drivers to access fresh food while out on the road.
Truck Driver Doug Sargent told KSTP-TV "That would be a plus. Fast foods with the drive-thru won't hardly serve us. Trying to find a good warm meal, if it's just something besides a hamburger, there's a big difference."
Operators of food trucks who would like to set up at one of these rest stops will have to apply for a permit. They'll be able to be set up to serve the truckers for at least the next two weeks while the stay at home order is in place. The order will go into effect immediately after it's approved by the Minnesota Executive Council.
According to KSTP-TV Here are the six rest areas that will allow food trucks:
- St. Croix (I-94 westbound)
- Enfield (I-94 eastbound)
- Forest Lake (I-35 southbound)
- New Market (I-35 southbound)
- Marion (I-90 westbound)
- Fuller Lake (I-94 westbound)
