It was a beautiful fall night for some high school football at Dean Fritze field at the Hayfield High School. It was homecoming night for the Vikings and they went up against the 4-1 Goodhue Wildcats. Little did the Vikings know that Goodhue would roll up a five-touchdown lead before halftime and go on to win it 56-14.

Sam McNamara scored after the Vikings had to give up the ball and the Wildcats moved the ball down the field, with 6:08 in the first quarter on an 11-yard pass from Jacob Pasch. Mariano Bigalk hit the extra point to make it 7-0. Garret Huemann had 138 yards on 20 carries on the night and scored with 1:33 left in the first. Bigalk put it through the goal post again and it was 14-0.

Calvin Peterson had a four-yard touchdown run, but the extra was no good and it was 20-0. Mason Huemann had 103 yards and 15 carries on the night and scored from 29 yards out, that extra was good and it was 27-0. Jacob Pasch then connected with Nathan Altendorf from 29 yards out and the extra point made it 34-0 at halftime.

Sam McNamara took the kick to start the third 60 yards for a touchdown that made it 41-0. Nathan Altendorf intercepted a Trace Tebay Pass and ran it 29 yards for a touchdown and the extra point made it 48-0. The Vikings got on the board when Drew Olive hit Aaron Anderson with an eight-yard pass with 3:01 to play in the third.

Sven Otterness lit it up again for Goodhue with a four-yard run early in the fourth, only to see Lane Canny take the ensuing kickoff back 80 yards with 10:04 left.

Jacob Pasch was three of six for 45 yards. The Vikings had 63 yards of total offense, including 36 rushing from Canny, and 36 passing from Olive.

Ninth-ranked Goodhue faces Lewiston-Altura next week for the Wildcats' homecoming game in Goodhue. Hayfield takes their 1-5 record on the road to Fillmore-Central.
