If you like to golf, bicycle, scuba, or surf your destination vacations just got a little cheaper after Delta announced that starting yesterday golf clubs, bicycles, scuba gear, and surfboards won't be charged an extra $150 to come with. Sounds like an extra couple of rounds of golf.

According to the brief press release sent out by Delta yesterday:

"The airline is eliminating the $150 specialty sports bag fee previously charged for these items, effective for travel worldwide on tickets purchased beginning July 17, 2019. Customers will instead pay a first, second or third checked bag fee according to the fare rules associated with their booking and/or SkyMiles Medallion status." Delta Press Release

I took my golf clubs with when we visited Monterey, California in January and as a cost-saving measure, I used FedEx (cost me about $30) to send my clubs ahead of time to the golf course I planned on playing at. If you go with the FedEx route, be sure to connect with the golf course before you mail your clubs to them, otherwise, they won't have any idea why they got your sticks and might toss them, or send them back.

You can see Delta's baggage fee breakdown here.

Now with this fee elimination, I might just haul them on the plane rather than rely on the kindness of strangers handling my golf clubs.
