Go to jail. Go directly to Jail. Do not pass Go. Do not collect $100. That's what happens when you break the record for fastest speeding ticket ever in Minnesota.

It seems like things really got out of hand during the pandemic and the lockdowns of 2020 and 2021. People were regularly being stopped for flying down the interstates of Minnesota at more than 100 mph. Was it the wide open roads with nobody commuting, or was it just people going stir-crazy with all the pandemic craziness?

I still see some maniacs come flying by at what has to be more than 100 mph on the interstate. Its to the point where its not good enough to check your mirrors and blind spot before changing lanes to pass. You have to look way back in the left lane to see if someone is screaming towards you at warp speed.

It feels a bit more sane out there than it did a few years ago, but the speed demons are still out there -- so watch out!

In Minnesota, driving over 100 miles per hour is a petty misdemeanor, but prosecutors and police may charge it as a misdemeanor if the driver put others or property at risk.

Fastest Speeding Tickets Ever Issued

  • Minnesota: 205 mph in a 65 mph zone. The motorcyclist was arrested for reckless driving. (You think?!?!)
  • Iowa: 122 mph in a 65 mph zone. The teen driver was given a $515 fine.
  • Wisconsin: They don't say. It must have been good!
  • North Dakota: 150 mph in a 65 mph zone. Survey says...$395.
  • South Dakota: 118 in a 65 mph zone.

So yeah, at least compared to our neighbors, Minnesota takes the gold. The fastest I could find in U.S. history happened in 2003 when a Texas driver was stopped going 242 miles per hour in a 75 mph zone.

Go to jail. Go directly to Jail. Do not pass Go. Do not collect $100.
