Faribault, MN (KROC AM News) -The former Kasson police officer recently charged with child sex abuse crimes in Dodge and Olmsted counties was arrested Wednesday on new charges in Rice County.

Seventeen felony counts of 1st-degree criminal sexual conduct and four counts of 2nd-degree criminal sexual conduct were filed Wednesday against 51-year-old Julio Baez.

He was arrested in St.Charles, one day after he posted bail on the Dodge and Olmsted  cases. He is expected to be arraigned Thursday on the new charges.

The Rice County criminal complaint says the abuse involved three girls and occurred between 1999 and 2004 while Baez lived in Morristown and Faribault. The complaint says the abuse began when the girls ranged in age from four to 9-years-old.

Baez is scheduled to attend an evidentiary hearing on the earlier cases November 1st.

Baez had been with the Kasson Police Dept. since 2004. Dodge County Sheriff Scott Rose says Baez shot himself three times in a suicide attempt June 2nd. Two days later, the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Dept. was informed of the sex abuse allegations and started an investigation.
