Dakota County Attorney Jim Backstrom said on Monday that 30-year-old Erik Michael Akervik plead guilty to one count of criminal sexual conduct in the third degree.

In the case he was accused of having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old student and also sending nude photos of himself to another student He was given as part of his plea deal a second count of criminal sexual conduct in the third-degree was dismissed.  And the court tossed out a charge of electronic solicitation of a child.

He had originally plead not guilty and his trial had been set for July. As a part of his bail in April, he was to have no contact with anyone under 18.

According to Backstrom and the court report Akrevik contacted a 15-year-old male on Instagram and asked for a follow, authorities reported. Akervik knew the boy through Mount Olivet Church, where he worked part-time as junior high choir director.

The church originally put him under suspension but then,  terminated his employment when more potential victims came forward.

No word yet on when sentencing will be.
