Mantorville, MN (KROC AM News) - At least one person died and another was critically injured after they were trapped in their apartments after a fire broke out Thursday morning in Mantorville.

The fire was reported around 6:30 am at Chestnut Apartments.

Dodge County Sheriff Scott Rose says several occupants were trapped in their apartments. Rose says five of the occupants were taken to St Marys Hospital, one with critical injuries.

Reports from the scene indicate a woman who was trapped stopped responding to fire crews before they could reach her apartment. Reports indicated she was unresponsive when they did reach her and CPR was given to the victim.

Fire crews and other first responders from several surrounding communities were called to assist in fighting the blaze and dealing with the occupants.  The fire was brought under control around 8:00 AM.

Rose says it appears the fire started in Apartment #5.

The cause is under investigation.
