The Faribault Falcon girls hockey team pulled away in the third period of their 5-1 win over the Rochester John Marshall Rockets Saturday to run their record to 5-0.  The Falcons had a 2-1 lead after two periods before sophomore Rylie Starkson buried two pucks in the final period at the Faribault Ice Arena.  Faribault outshot the Rockets 33-21 after a slow start in that department.

The first period John Marshall had the shooting advantage 6-3 but the game was tied at 1.  Falcon junior Olivia Williamson scored a shorthanded goal 11:08 into the game.  With 1:24 to go in the period the Rockets answered on junior Ashley Koehler's even strength goal with assists to sophomore Alyssa Kang and senior Lauren Hugeback.

Faribault Junior Haley Lang scored the only goal of the second period at the 6:04 mark assisted by junior Abigail Goodwin and Starkson.

The Falcons put the game away in the third period with goals 8 seconds apart by Starkson assisted by Goodwin and Serenity Knott (9:02) and Ashley Rost unassisted (9:10).  Starkson's second goal of the period was unassisted (10:04).

Faribault was 0-2 on the power play and John Marshall 0-3.  Junior goalie Mikayla Bohner had 20 saves and Rockets junior Anysia Heimer stopped 28 shots.

Rochester John Marshall was playing it's third game in four days.  Losses to Red Wing Wednesday 5-2 and Hopkins/St. Louis Park Friday 6-1.  The Rockets are 1-6 to start their season.  The lone win was 6-2 against Austin.  John Marshall is at Rochester Mayo Tuesday, December 4.
