The weather was perfect for the second car cruise of the Faribault Area Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Main Street Program.  Approximately 600 vehicles participated a month after the debut event had 350 participants.

Traditionally these cruises have featured classic vehicles parked downtown.  Due to social distancing because of COVID-19 organizers decided to actually take the vehicles on the road and cruise.  It appears to be a formula for success.

In May the route was primarily around Faribault.  Tonight the participants did a drive around area lakes and finished in downtown Faribault.

There were a lot of people watching along the route and it appeared they were socially distancing.  A number of people were watching along 4th Street.  Some stayed in their vehicles in the parking lot of the Rice County Government Services Building.

Others brought their lawn chairs and coolers and enjoyed the perfect temperature for the event.  Not too hot, not too cold.  It was classic vehicle Heaven.

In addition to classic cars and trucks there were approximately 75 motorcycles on the cruise also.

Chamber Main Street Program Coordinator Kelly Nygaard was thrilled with the turnout of people not only driving but watching along the route.

Nygaard says they hope the Governor has opened up the state enough to allow them to go back to the old parked vehicles downtown for their next event.

That cruise is scheduled for July 17.  Then there are also cruises scheduled for August 21 and September 18.

Nygaard was the guest on a recent KDHL AM Minnesota program and said with the success of the May event they are considering kicking off each cruise season with an actual cruise of the streets.

If variety is truly the spice of life then the Faribault Car Cruise got the community feeling smoking hot.  Virtually all makes were there.  From modernized classics to vehicles with everything original on them.
