Faribault Falcons freshman Zach Slinger scored an unassisted goal 6:18 into overtime for a season opening victory over the Dodge County Wildcats in Kasson Tuesday night.  The score was 4-3 with each team scoring a power play goal and the Falcons outshot the Wildcats in the extra session 7-4.

Faribault scored the first goal on a power play 1:25 into the game.  Freshman Grady Goodwin scored the goal assisted by Slinger.  Dodge County answered in the second period with an Ethan Dale power play goal assisted by Charles Blaisdell with :50 to go in the period.

Each team scored twice in the third period.  Faribault scored 1:04 into the period when sophomore Lucas Linneman connected unassisted.  Senior Owen Williamson had the other goal that period at the 6:40 mark assisted by junior Braden Schroeder and  sophomore Brody Pavel.

Dodge Center's two third period goals included a Seth Buecksler even strength goal 5:12 into the period assisted by Logan Gautheir and Keegan Kuhn.  Charles Blaisdell scored unassisted at the 9:33 mark to tie the game at 3 and force the overtime.

The Falcons were 1 for 3 on the power play.  Wildcats 1 for 2.

Shots in the game were even with each team collecting 25 shots on goal.  Junior Spencer Ell got the win in net with 22 saves.  Timothy Wolfe was the Dodge County goalie and had 21 saves.

The Falcons travel to Northfield Thursday night and the game will be broadcast.
