Zumbrota, MN (KROC-AM News) - Motorists are being advised to expect short-term traffic delays on the Highway 60 west bridge over Highway 52 at Zumbrota on Wednesday.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation says crews will be assembling a safety barrier on the damaged bridge. Beginning around 8:30 a.m., crews will be stopping traffic across the bridge for 15-20 minute intervals to unload and assemble segments of the steel safety barrier.

Once the materials are unloaded, crews will be securing the barrier and finalizing its placement. For the remainder of the day, flaggers will be directing traffic to flow one direction at a time to cross the bridge by alternating directions that will result in short delays. If the work cannot be completed on Wednesday, the crews will return either Thursday or Friday to finish the work.

A vehicle that was traveling north on Highway 52 last year struck and damaged several of the beams on the bridge. Traffic has been shifted to the north to accommodate two narrower lanes running in both directions and the installation of the safety barrier will keep vehicles away from the damaged area of the bridge until it can be replaced. That is expected to occur next year.
