Edina Wins Third Straight Girls AA Swim Title
The Edina Hornets continued to sting the competition at the Class AA State Girls Swimming and Diving Meet amassing 365 points. Minnetonka was second with 231 and Wayzata third with 186 points. The South Suburban Conference had 7 teams place in the top 21. Owatonna was the only Big Nine Conference school to score points and finished in 22nd place.
Eagan (115) and Prior Lake (92) finished 7th and 9th respectively. Lakeville North (70) and Lakeville South (61) were 13th and 14th. Rosemount (47) finished 17th. Eastview (41) 18th. Apple Valley (26) was 21st. Farmington (12) was 28th and Burnsville (8) 29th. The Owatonna Huskies finished with 20 points.
South Suburban Conference All-State performances were turned in by the Prior Lake 200 Yard Medley Relay. Eastview junior Claudia Dougan was third in the 200 Yard Freestyle and third in the 100 yard freestyle. Eagan senior Jen Lenertz placed 6th in the 200 Yard Freestyle and 7th in the 100 Yard Freestyle.
Eagan senior Jenna Joerger and Rosemount junior Molly Urkiel placed 5th and 8th in the 200 Yard Individual Medley. Lakeville North sophomore Katie Pattee was 4th in the 50 Yard Freestyle. Prior Lake sophomore Mary O'Neil finished 7th in the 100 Yard Butterfly.
Lakeville South sophomore Skyler Leverenz placed 7th and Eagan senior Keely Tierney 8th in the 500 Yard Freestyle. Eagan junior Lara Mitchell was 5th in the 100 Yard Backstroke. Prior Lake senior Skyler Welle finished 6th in the 100 Yard Breaststroke.
The Lakeville South and Lakeville North 200 Yard Freestyle Relay teams were 4th and 5th. Prior Lake was 7th. The Lakeville South relay featured senior Josephine Sommers, sophomores Skyler Leverenz and Elizabeth Bonneville and junior MaKena Johnson. The Lakeville North relay team was comprised of sophomores Katie Patee and Georgia Olson and seniors Megan Pattee and Caroline Anderson. The Prior Lake relay had seniors Skyler Welle and Maddy Mjoen and sophomores Ella Knutson and Mary O'Neil.
The 400 Yard Freestyle had six teams from the South Suburban Conference finish in the top 13 in the state. Eagan and Rosemount were 7th and 8th for All-State honors then it was Lakeville North 9th, Lakeville South 11th, Prior Lake 12th and Eastview 13th.
A new state record was recorded in 1 Meter Diving eclipsing a mark that had been in place since 1997. Jaime Sanger of Wayzata scored 507 points for the record in '97 and Edina junior Megan Phillip won this year's diving competition with a 517 total.
Owatonna senior Allison An was All-State with a 4th place finish and 371.75 points.
Apple Valley senior Macy Gilmore and Burnsville senior Olivia Rippentrop placed 9th and 13th respectively.
