Widespread rain is expected across Minnesota late today through Thursday. Rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are likely across our area, with even higher amounts expected farther to the north.

Once you jump to the north of Interstate 94, the likelihood of 2 to 3 inches of rain increases.

The possibility of significant snowfall is greatest across northern Minnesota Friday into Friday night, where six inches or more of accumulation is expected, with some spots receiving up to a foot of new snow.

Here in southern Minnesota we could expect to see a coating of fresh snow Friday into Friday night.

Following this week's storm system, much colder temps will settle in across the region, with high temperatures struggling to climb out of the 20s through Thanksgiving.

This winter is another La Nina winter, which generally means colder than normal winters for us. When you look back at similar years, some have had below normal temperatures, and some have had above normal temperatures -- so experts generally feel that there's an equal chance of falling on either side of the below/above normal temperature line in 2022-2023.

From the National Weather Service this morning: A strong storm system will impact the Upper Midwest Tuesday through Saturday. The forecast track of the storm would result in widespread rainfall for central and southern Minnesota, and west-central Wisconsin. 1-3 inches of rain is likely Tuesday through Thursday, with light snow accumulation possible Friday and Saturday.
