The Country Music Association revealed the names of nominees for the 2021 CMA Awards yesterday morning (Sept. 9).

I couldn't help but notice that a few names were missing.

Eric Church and Chris Stapleton are up for five awards. Gabby Barrett and Miranda Lambert claimed four nominations, and Brothers Osborne, Kane Brown, Luke Combs, Ashley McBryde, Maren Morris, and Chris Young all earned three nominations.

This is all fine and dandy, but what about Morgan Wallen?

When talking to country music lovers, I find the conversation always circles to Wallen. There is no denying his talent and songwriting abilities, so why isn't he among the previously mentioned names?

Though Wallen found a lot of success in the early months of 2021, things took a turn after a video surfaced of him saying the N-Word. The next day he was suspended "indefinitely" from Big Loud Records and blacklisted from most radio and streaming services.

The next couple of months brought Wallen a lot of time to rethink his actions. He canceled his tour, shared his thoughts on social media, and officially apologized for his actions on Good Morning America

There is no excuse to use the N-Word, but I'd like to think Wallen has learned the error of his ways.

His album, Dangerous: The Double Album, did receive a nomination for Album of the Year (rightfully so, that album is pure gold), but that is where the story ends. Perhaps after one more year of healing, Wallen will be among the nominees for Male Vocalist of the Year.
