Faribault and Northfield elected new Mayors during the 2024 General Election along with some City Council members,

Thomas Spooner won the Faribault contest against former Council member Jonathon Wood 4,838 to 3,477.  Spooner is presently on the council and captured 57.68 percent of votes cast, Wood 41.45 percent.  There were 73 write-in votes.

Faribault City Council will have a new member.  Mandy Barnes received the most votes 4,127 or 21.17%.  The other two achieving seats on the council are current council members Royals Ross, 3,845 or 19.72% and Chuck Thiele, 3,380 or 17.34%.

Former councilman John Rowan garnered 2,981, 15.29%, Mike Reeves, 2,810, 14.41%, David Blais, 2,228, 11.43%.  There were 123 write-in votes.

Northfield City Council at-large seat goes to Brad Ness with 6,077 votes or 65.76% of votes cast compared to David Delong with 3,099, 33.54%.

Peter Dahlen ran unopposed for the Northfield Ward 3 council position and got 1,831 votes.

Northfield Ward 2 was won by Chad Beumer, 1,702 to 1,112 for Emy Farley.  That's 60.35% to 39.43%.

The Faribault Public School Board will have a new member,  Candace Knudson came in second in the voting behind incumbent Casie Steeves, 5,249, 17.64% to 4,995 or 16.79%.

Incumbent Jerry Robicheau will keep his position with 4,705 votes, 15,81% of votes cast.

Richard Olson will not continue on the board,  He got 4,688 votes, 15.75%.  Michael Cross had 4,197, 14.10%, Janet Moline, 3,890, 13.07% and Tabitha Kuperus achieved 1,902 votes, 6.39%.

The Northfield Public School Board elected four people and passed all three General Obligation Construction Bond questions amounting to a total of approximately 130 million dollars.

The four school board members voted in were Corey Butler, 8,590, 19.15%, Claudia Gonzalez-George, 8,462, 18.86%, Maggie Epstein, 8,106, 18.07%, and Amy Goerwitz, 7,529, 16.78%.

Other candidates were Tristan Cox, 6,032 votes, 13.45%, Iris Lee, 3,860, 8.60% and Andreas Thurnheer, 2,088, 4.65%.

The first Northfield Public Schools question asked for approval of $95,380,000 for acquisition and betterment of school sites and facilities including replacing a portion of the high school with new construction.

10,068 yes to 6,855 no.

The second question for General Obligation school building bonds not to exceed $18,725,000 for construction of an expanded gymnasium at the high school.

8,991 yes votes and 7,768 no.

The third question was for school building bonds of $6,925,000 for construction and installation of geothermal heating, ventilation and air condition system at the high school.

9,445 yes votes with 7,291 no.
