A letter to Santa is one thing. But a letter from Santa is one step better. The Owatonna Parks and Recreation office is offering kids (and adults too, I suppose) the opportunity to hear back from St. Nicholas. But only if you get your letter to them by this Friday, December 11.

Letters can be dropped off in a box outside the park and rec office at 540 West Hills Circle. You can email it as well to parkrec@ci.owatonna.mn.us. Remember to include a return address.

Owatonna Parks and Rec is sponsoring several other holiday-themed events too.

  • Soccer ball from Santa - Everyone who creates an account on their new registration system will be entered into a drawing for a soccer ball. One-hundred will win. The deadline is also December 11.
  • Elf in the Park - Timmy the Elf is hiding out at Owatonna parks this month. Pictures of Timmy will be posted on park and rec's Facebook page. Take a picture of Timmy with your kids, or yourself, and post or email it for a chance at prizes.
  • Candy Cane Hunt - December 20-23 candy canes will be hidden in city parks. Likewise, watch park and rec's Facebook page for details and location clues.
  • Winter Weekend Out - Owatonna Parks and Recreation is planning for their annual outdoor celebration weekend, to take place January 29-21. Watch for a list of activities.
