The City of Minneapolis has a map on its website that shows the location of shootings and gunfire reported by both individuals and SHOTSPOTTER technology. The map layers can be chosen to reveal the last 7-day, a month, or the year to date. The year-to-date option goes back to a portion of 2020, which seems off as it's been more than a year since 2020. All of the options show markers across the city, but what's most troubling to many people, both residents and non-residents alike is the sheer number of reports so far this year, and we are only 3 full months into 2022.

A majority of SHOTSPOTTER marks, an orange dot, appear to be concentrated in North Minneapolis, where one commenter on the post from Uptown Crime alleged that there have only been 9 days since 2018 that there has NOT been gunfire reported in North Minneapolis.

Looking back at the data, which only spans through 2020, this comment can't be independently verified, but if it stands as true, that would be a grim statistic.

One statistic that can be seen, is that calls in regard to gunfire are up across the entire city. So far this year, according to data from the City of Minneapolis' website there have been 2.286 calls for service in regards to gunfire, up 11% from last year and 74.5% from 3 years ago.

If the current trend of gunfire calls continues, Minneapolis will see somewhere in the area of nearly 9,000 calls for shots being fired, and around 500 gunshot wound victims, both seem to indicate the issue of gun violence in Minneapolis continues to grow, with no end in sight, at least for the time being.
