St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) - Minnesota is among the states seeing rising numbers of COVID-19 infections among young adults.

State Health Commissioner Jan Malcolm noted there have been a number of case clusters involving younger people who have visited bars in the Mankato area and near the University of Minnesota campus. She also noted that increased testing is uncovering more cases overall. Almost 500 new cases of the illness were detected by the over 14,500 tests completed yesterday. The positive rate from the testing has been edging higher over the past couple of weeks. It had been down to around two-percent, while almost 3.5-percent of the tests completed yesterday came back positive for COVID-19.

Meanwhile, after slowly declining for a few weeks, the number of people hospitalized because of the new coronavirus has been fairly stable this week. There are currently 335 people hospitalized due to COVID-19 with 157 of the patients in intensive care. The number of deaths attributed to the new virus remains low. The Department of Health today reported five new coronavirus deaths statewide and the daily number has now been below 10 for six straight days.

Olmsted County, which reported 22 new COVID-19 cases today, currently has 132 active COVID-19 cases.
