Today I went out to the farm to start getting equipment ready for spring field work. It was a great day to be outside -- clear skies and almost 70 degrees. It is hard to describe the feeling of a warm spring day anticipating getting out in the field to plant another crop. There is the eternal optimism that we will produce a great crop this year.

With corn and soybean prices much lower this year, we need a lot of bushels an acre of corn and soybeans to hopefully make some money. That means we really need Mother Nature to cooperate this year. It would be great to have normal weather for an entire growing season. It has been a struggle the past two springs, especially two years ago. It was so wet it was difficult to get the crop planted. In fact there were a lot of acres that farmers had to collect crop insurance called "prevented plant." Normal weather and a nice relaxing planting season, that would be great.
