Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Will southeast Minnesota finally experience its first frost of the season next weekend?

Last year the first frost occurred Oct 2nd across parts of the region, which is about average.

We haven’t been anywhere near freezing since late April (Rochester’s last freezing day was April 25 when the low was 25 degrees.). Temperatures have been above average for weeks and the trend is expected to continue into the coming week.

There have been eight days with highs in the 80s since Sept. 1st.

The coolest daytime weather the region has experienced the last several weeks was back on September 3rd when high temperatures peaked in the low 60s in most areas. The coolest temperature in Rochester since Sept. 1st was 39 on Sept 25th.

The National Weather Service reported Saturday “Below normal temperatures are expected in the western half of the country next week.”

Will the cold air make its way to southern Minnesota?

As of Saturday, the NWS was forecasting cooler weather for the region in the coming days. Highs temperatures are expected to fall from the 70s Saturday/Sunday into the 60s Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday and then into the 50s/ Thursday/Friday.

Low temps are expected to dip into the low 40s Friday.

The La Crosse NWS office hasn’t issued the outlook for next Saturday yet. We should know what they think by Sunday or Monday.

The warm weather is being enjoyed by most. Rochester Public Schools Superintendent Kent Pekel was happy it wasn’t rainy and cool Friday as he joined the Century High School Homecoming Parade.

Plants have also been producing buds/flowers in recent days when most are already beginning to hunker down for the winter.
