CDC Says Fully Vaccinated People Can Travel Again
It's been a long time coming, but the CDC has now announced that fully vaccinated people can now return to traveling. Up until now, the Centers For Disease Control has been advising people not to travel because of COVID-19 for over the last year. Recently they also had told people vaccinated people to not travel. Today their guidance has been updated that allows vaccinated people to travel within the United States.
The Center for Disease Control still says people should continue to social distance and wear a mask even if vaccinated and that applies to traveling as well. COVID-19 testing will not be required for those fully vaccinated for travel within the United States. However for travel abroad they say everyone including fully vaccinated people should get a COVID-19 test. If traveling in the United States they do not require vaccinated travelers to self-quarantine.
How long does it take to be fully vaccinated? Currently if you are receiving either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, it's two weeks after your second dose. For the Johnson & Johnson vaccine its two weeks after the single dose.
If you absolutely must travel and have not been fully vaccinated, the CDC has their recommendations for unvaccinated domestic travel. That includes getting a covid-19 test 1-3 days before your trip, wearing a mask, social distancing, and getting tested again after travel. You also are supposed to self quarantine for a full 7 days after travel.
