Car Once Owned by Hollywood Star Spotted at Steele County Fair
Thousands of fairgoers walked through the Auto Museum Building during the recent Steele County Free Fair. The theme in 2022 was convertibles. Those who read the back stories posted with each vehicle left with a great deal of knowledge. If you noticed the 1967 Cadillac DeVille in the back corner, you could have read about its famous owner.
The car was originally purchased by Jack Webb, star of the TV show Dragnet which aired in the 1950s and 60s. Allan and Cathy Martin of Owatonna bought it at an auction in 2021. The info page posted at the fair reads, "I enjoy driving the car and sharing its history. The story is, Jack Webb purchased a new Cadillac every year and gave his used Caddy to an employee as a gift. Jack was well known for his generosity."
Take a virtual tour of the auto museum below and hear from Terry Hansen, one of four superintendents along with Charlie Kaplan, Jon Simon, and Les Abraham. Hansen gives special thanks to Gretchen Kaplan who created plaques for participants and Robin Hansen who did much of the behind-the-scenes computer work for the back stories and information pages.
