Cannon Falls Lights John Burch Park to Honor High School Seniors
Cannon Falls Mayor John Althoff reported on KDHL today the city had authorized the lighting of John Burch Park each Wednesday evening to honor CFHS seniors. Every parking spot down the right field line and behind the grandstand was taken. The lot across Highway 19 was nearly full.
The lot behind Scofield Drug also had a number of vehicles on hand to watch Cannon Falls High School baseball Head Coach Bucky Lindow turn on the lights and make announcements over the public address system.
The lights went on as they will every Wednesday evening until the end of the school year, or kids go back to school. 8:20 p.m. for 20 minutes in honor of the Cannon Falls High School class of 2020.
When the lights came on horns honked around the ballpark.
It took a little while to get the full effect of the lights but when they were fully lit more horns were honked.
Very few people got out of their cars to snap a photo or two. Lindow reminded people to honor the Governor's social distancing order and thank first responders and health care workers for their work keeping everybody safe.
Althoff said during Wednesday's Cannon Falls News on KDHL, "This is kind of our salute to the class of 2020. They are kind of missing out on a lot of their spring activities and school functions here because of the pandemic. This is just our way of saluting the (Cannon Falls High School) class of 2020."
