Building & Its Contents Heavily Damaged In Walcott Township Structure Fire Saturday

A structure fire on Saturday resulted in the building and its content being heavily damaged on Saturday, according to a news release from the Faribault Fire Department Monday afternoon.

Faribault Fire Chief Dustin Dienst stated in the release that "No one was hurt and firefighters did a great job of saving many of the contents in this building”.

According to the release:

"At 2:18 pm on May 7, 2022, the Faribault Fire Department, Rice County Sherriff Deputies, and North Memorial Ambulance responded to a structure fire at 5125 250^th St E." Upon the responder's arrival, heavy smoke was pouring out of the north end of the building. The release went on to state that "no people or animals were inside the shed." Another building that was attached to the burning building by a walkway was not involved in the fire upon first responders' arrival.

The release went on to state that "Firefighters made entry to the building through a door and knocked down the flames. The overhead door was then cut open for larger access and to help ventilate the smoke and heat."

Mutual aid was provided by the Medford Fire Department. The building and its contents were heavily damaged. Dienst also noted that there were no injuries reported. Fire crews cleared the scene at 4:28 pm.

The Faribault Fire Department worked with the property owner to determine a cause.  Due to the extent of damage, the State Fire Marshal’s Office was contacted to assist with the investigation which is ongoing at this time.
