Three families accounted for most of the scoring as Owatonna's girls and boys hockey teams combined to defeat Austin by a score of 18-0 Thursday night. The OHS girls won at home 7-0 with Herzog sisters lighting the lamp three combined times. The Huskies boys won at Riverside Arena 11-0 as the Kubicek and Pederson brothers totaled six of the markers.

In the girls game on Dudley Otto Rink at the Four Seasons Centre in Owatonna, the Huskies scored 32 seconds into the first period. Anna Herzog scored the first of her two goals with an assist from her younger sister Olivia. Anna added her other goal later in the first. The Huskies were up 4-0 after one.

After a scoreless second frame, Olivia scored early in the third period. The Huskies put the game into running time midway through the third. Both Anna and Olivia had three-point nights. OHS out shot the Packers 39-10 according to the Hockey Hub website. The Huskies host Rochester Lourdes Tuesday, January 7 at 7 pm on Kat Kountry 105 FM and the Kat Kountry 105 app.

The Owatonna boys left little doubt in their encounter in Austin, jumping out to a 5-0 lead after one period in what would be an 11-0 four-point Big Nine Conference victory. Zach Kubicek scored the opening goal 61 seconds into the game. Zach completed a hat trick midway through the third period, but may have been more excited when his younger brother Levi scored early in the third for his first varsity goal. Zach also had two assists, although not on Levi's goal.

While the Huskies did not rub in the score with many celebrations, they did recognize Casey Pederson's historic first career goal to cap the scoring late in the third. Collin Pederson had a goal and three assists as OHS improved to 4-0 in the conference.

OHS peppered the freshman Packers netminder with 71 shots. Austin's Sam Eyre made several highlight reel stops along the way. Owatonna's Preston Meier stopped all 12 shots he saw to win in his varsity debut.

Owatonna plays a huge league game with Rochester Century Thursday, January 9 at Four Seasons Centre. The Panthers topped the Huskies twice last regular season by a goal each time, once in overtime. Owatonna upended Century in double overtime in the section playoffs.
