The Faribault Bethlehem Academy Cardinals new theme song is Pat Benatar's "Heartbreaker."  The Cardinals traveled to Rochester Tuesday night to play Schaeffer Academy at the Rochester Community College field.  It was a pitching battle with a total of 18 strikeouts in the game.  Schaeffer Academy won 2-1 in a walk-off.  Lion senior Christian Lahr swung at the first pitch he saw in the bottom of the seventh to deliver the game winning hit with junior Tim Hook scoring and the Cardinals lost their third straight one run game of the season.

Bethlehem Academy scored in the top of the second inning when junior Jack Clark started the inning with a single and advanced to third on a sophomore Jack Jandro single.  Jandro then stole second base and freshman Jarrett Malecha was hit by a pitch to load the bases.  Junior Zach Van Thomme attempted to bunt and Clark was thrown out on the force play at home.  Freshman Lucas Linneman grounded out to second and Jandro scored on the second out leaving runners at second and third.  A ground out ended the threat.

Schaeffer Academy tied the game in the bottom of the fourth inning when the first batter, senior Reed Davis smashed a double.  Following a pop out, there was a single by freshman Nolan Gora scoring Davis from second base.

The Cardinals had just 3 hits in the game and the Lions 5.  There were no errors in the contest.  Jack Clark tallied two hits and Jack Jandro had the other for Bethlehem Academy.  Clark also had two stolen bases in the game.

Sophomore Spencer Ell struck out 7 and walked 3 while throwing 100 pitches, 61 for strikes in 6 1/3 innings for the Cardinals.

Schaeffer Academy had two pitchers combine for their three hitter with 11 strikeouts and no walks of any Cardinals.  Davis started the game and went the first 3 innings allowing two hits while fanning five and junior Riley Gora pitched the last four innings giving up one hit and fanning 6.

Bethlehem Academy  is now 2-8 and Schaeffer Academy is 4-4.

The Cardinals fell last Thursday in the second game of their doubleheader with Waterville-Elysian-Morristown 9-8 when they led going into the bottom of the inning and lost to United South Central 8-7 Monday when the Rebels scored their winning run in the top of the seventh at Bell Field in Faribault.

The Cardinals are scheduled to play 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hayfield and the Lions next game is Thursday 4:30 p.m. at Houston in the resumption of a game suspended due to rain.
