Austin Wins First High Kick Class AA Dance Title
Austin captured their first State Dance High Kick title today in Class AA at the Target Center in downtown Minneapolis.
The Faribault Emeralds qualified in both High Kick and Jazz but did not make the finals in either of the competitions. Austin was not a finalist in Jazz and the other Class 1AA representative New Prague also did not make the finals in either event.
Class A St. Cloud Cathedral won their 5th High Kick title, first since 2010. Second place went to Yellow Medicine East. Three time defending State Champions Lac Qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd finished third.
Cannon Falls and Lake City did make it to the finals in Class A High Kick. Other finalist was Crosby-Ironton.
Class AAA Champions for the third straight year and 14th overall Eastview. Wayzata was chosen for second place, Lakeville North third place. Other finalists were Lakeville South, Edina, Chaska.
Selected for the Class AA All-Tournament team were seniors Rianne Buck and Madelyn Fredrickson from Zumbrota-Mazeppa. Senior Matti Baird and sophmore Morgan Brandel from Cannon Falls.
Jazz Dance Competition Friday had Class AAA Eastview winning, Maple Grove and Wayzata placed second and third. Other finalists were Sartell, Edina and Brainerd.
Jazz Class AA Benilde-St. Margaret's was chosen Champions. Orono second and Totino-Grace third.
Others in the finals were Holy Family Catholic, Sauk Rapids-Rice, Mound-Westonka.
St. Cloud Cathedral also won Class A Jazz with Lac Qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd chosen second and Yellow Medicine East-Granite Falls third.
Other finalists were Zumbrota-Mazeppa, Cannon Falls and Frazee-Vergas.
Only members of teams in the finals are eligible to be named to the All-Tournament team.
