Minneapolis (KROC AM News) - The US Attorney’s office in Minnesota has opened a criminal case against a man who was seen on video starting a fire at the Target headquarters building in downtown Minneapolis.

The August 26th incident was one of several that broke out after a murder suspect killed himself in the same area. The man shot himself as officers were moving in to arrest him. Witnesses and others spread “false rumors” that the man was killed in an officer-involved shooting.

A federal charge of attempted arson was filed Friday against 34-year-old Leroy Williams.

According to the criminal complaint, surveillance video showed Williams light a cardboard box on fire and place it inside the building through a shattered glass door. The video showed him make several attempts to reignite the box. He was also seen making several additional attempts to start a fire inside the vestibule of the building.

Another man was charged in September with starting a fire at the same building.
