My guest on today's AM Minnesota Program will be Alan Krause who is the Conservation Program Manager for the Cannon River Watershed Partnership. Alan made a short presentation last week at the Dakota Rice Corn and Soybean Growers Annual Banquet in Northfield that really caught my attention!

Since the Prevented Plant year of 2013 there has been a lot of attention on cover crops. Is there a benefit in terms of soil health and controlling the loss of crop nutrients? There is a very small watershed in Rice County of 3,000 acres. Alan, along with cooperating farmers they planted 1,000 of cover crops and measured the levels of nitrate nitrogen is the tile water. Very interesting results!
