Allina Health issued a News Release today announcing beginning January 1, 2022, District One Hospital will become Allina Health Faribault Medical Center.

In the release it states, "The new name represents the commitment that Allina Health has made to the Faribault community and the integration of services into Allina Health's larger health care system.  Allina Health assumed ownership of the hospital in 2015."

The News Release quotes Allina Health President and Chief Operating Officer, Lisa Shannon.  "Since Allina Health took responsibility for District One Hospital, we have invested in staff, equipment and facilities to ensure we are able to provide outstanding care for the community from prevention and wellness to end-of-life care.  This name change makes clear that the Allina Health Faribault Medical Center is part of the larger Allina Health System, bringing our Whole-Person Care philosophy, addressing mind, body, spirit and connection to community, to all that we do."

KDHL has a call into officials at Allina in hopes of having some questions answered.

Does this mean the facility will be a stablization center with patients moving to hospitals elsewhere?  The number of hospital beds has steadily gone down since the time my Mother was there in 2012 with Pneumonia.

Would she have been transported to another community adding stress to her and family members hoping to visit had this been in place at that time?

These are questions I hope Allina will address.

The News Release goes on to state:  "The new name demonstrates to the community that all the capabilities of the full Allina Health system are here in Faribault, integrating the resources of a large health care system to every aspect of the care it delivers locally.  In addition to the new hospital name, other services that Allina Health delivers in Faribault will be renamed:

  • January 1, 2022 Allina Health District One Pharmacy (Pharmacy One) will be named Allina Health Faribault Pharmacy
  • January 1, 2022 Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute-District One will be renamed Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute -Faribault
  • February 1, 2022 Virginia Piper Cancer Institute-Faribault will be renamed Allina Health Cancer Institute-Faribault

The News Release goes on to note,"Since 2015, Allina Health has invested more than $40 million in infrastructure, medical equipment and staff enhancements to improve care at our Faribault facilities.

Seems like a natural to bring up here.
