Hastings, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Hastings man has been charged in connection with the discovery of burned human remains in a Hastings Park in July.

Dakota County Attorney Kathy Keena today announced a 33-year-old Timothy Otto has been charged with second-degree arson and a felony count of interference with a dead body. His conditional bail has been set at $150,000.

The charges stem from a discovery that followed an emergency response to a fire that destroyed a portable restroom at Jaycees Park along the Mississippi River on July 10th. After the fire was extinguished, the burned remains of 30-year-old Kyle Hamilton were found at the scene and it was later determined there were fatal amounts of methamphetamine and fentanyl in his body.

Investigators then learned that Hamilton had been seen at a property often frequented by drug users and the one witness reported seeing Hamilton slumped over in a bedroom occupied by Otto. He later told investigators that Hamilton had died of an apparent drug overdose in his room and he didn't know what to do.

Court documents say a witness told investigators that Otto told her he had taken Hamilton's body to the park and set a garbage can on fire after placing the victim's body inside the container.
